Advanced Mountaineering and Alpinism 2-Day

This course is for the mountaineer and alpinist looking to hone and refine skills already in practice. Designed to help you move safer, faster and more efficiently in big mountain terrain. After a day of skills and . You will be in the lead a lot of the time on this course with our guides there for advice and critique on risk management, alpine movement and techniques. This training takes place high on Pikes Peak in the Glen Cove Cirque and on the North Face including the Y-Couloir. Here we practice advanced techniques and learn new skills for application of efficient movement and route protection in big mountain terrain.

Trip requirements: Previous experience required (4-Day Mountaineering course or other mountain/glacier experience). Stiff mountaineering boots, winter clothing and headwear are required. You should have your own crampons, ice axe, harness and helmet. Email us for gear list and any other inquires.

  • Risk management in alpine terrain
  • Terrain belay and terrain assessment for faster and more secure movement in the mountains
  • Quicker transitions
  • Climbing technical routes in teams of three
  • Movement skills on snow and steep snow including a climb of the Y-Couloir or other Pikes classics
  • Movement skills on alpine rock
  • Short rope & short pitching intro
  • Advanced ice axe and crampon use
  • Route selection and group travel techniques
  • Snow anchors for protection, belay and rescue
  • Rappelling considerations
  • Route selection
  • Rigging for glacier travel
  • Belay techniques, and fixed lines
  • Advanced crevasse rescue, c-pulley systems, 6:1 drop loop haul systems

Client Expectations:

  • 4-day Mountaineering Course with in-field application or equivalent

Equipment Provided:
Group climbing gear; ropes, rack (rock, snow and ice protection).  Climbers should bring there own personal climbing gear.
