The Crags and Devil’s Playground, 1-Day (Level 1)
While Barr Trail is the most traveled trail to the summit of Pikes Peak the Crags side offers more solitude on the trail. The Crags trail located on the far west side of the mountain. Due to the location of the trail head, this is an all-day event; a camping option may be considered. Offered year round.
From the Crags Campground, the trail climbs steadily through forest and an alpine meadow, crosses the Pikes Peak Highway and continues, following a series of rock cairns to the summit. Without the overnight at a midway cabin this makes for a long day but the views on this side are spectacular. From the Crags Trail there are several hiking options that do not lead to the summit, but will leave you feeling energetically fulfilled. 6 miles one-way, 4-6 hours to the top, round-trip 8-10 hours.
Descent options: if you choose, we can offer a ride off the summit via Cog Train at additional cost, or transfer via shuttle. We are happy to assist you in any of these choices and build a custom program based on your desires.
